Dubliners (1914)- James Joyce
Verdict: Read it!
Dubliners was recommended to me over and over again. I did not want to read it. Why? I knew if I would, then I would also eventually have to read Ulysses. I was right. These are some of the best short stories I have ever read. Many are now permanently apart of my person. The Dead, which can be found as a stand-alone novella, is especially worth everyone’s time. In fact if you were really short on time just read that story. You wont regret it. If you consider yourself a reader, you probably already know about Dubliners. So for you, this is really just a reiteration—yes, Dubliners is as good as people say. On the off chance that you don’t read and are looking for something to work your way through, this is a great book to pick up. The best part is you can find Dubliners in the public domain, so don’t buy it. Don’t even go to the library. You can find it online for free.
(A small side note: Before you read “Ivy Day in the Committee Room,” make sure you read about Charles Stewart Parnell— otherwise you may find yourself completely lost.)
