At Swim-Two-Birds (1939)- Flann O’Brien
Verdict: Think about it.
Thoughts: Its a meta-fictional novel about a person writing a book about a person writing a book. Are you into that sort of thing? I am. I really appreciated At Swim-Two-Birds and will likely use some of its techniques in my own writing. It’s HILARIOUS. It also throws around interesting theological ideas. Several of the characters are unforgettable. At the same time At Swim-Two-Birds can be a slow read. There’s a bit of Irish dialect, and some nodding to different Irish folk tales. So if you don’t like to close read, research, or your attention span wanes quickly, I would pick up something else.
