Open Range (2003)- Kevin Costner
WARNING- MAJOR PLOT SPOILER AHEAD:
Open Range is not close to being my favorite movie. It’s not close to being my favorite western either, but it does contain one of my favorite scenes (possibly my very favorite). I’ll just spoil it for you—The movie sets up Butler, a bad guy who kills and wounds Costner’s friends in the movie, to be the ultimate gunslinger (even if he has an injured arm). Open Range really goes out of its way to point out how difficult beating Butler at a dual would be. It also points out that a duel between Costner’s character and Butler is inevitable. So here’s what happens at the beginning of the final shootout in the film—Butler is the guy with his arm in a sling:
