Why? This is not the best short story collection I have read. It’s not even the best Haruki Murakami collection I have read. But it is the first of his collections I read.And probably for that reason, After the Quake holds that special place as my favorite short story collection. Masterfully written, thematically potent, and emotionally resonant, After the Quake first transported me into that unique mind where the real and the the magical meet—the result was an obsession with everything Murakami.
