Reality Hunger (2011)- David Shields
Verdict: Read it!
This book has changed the way I look at literature. Is the traditional novel dead? Is non-fiction truly non-fiction? Where do ideas come from? Is art theft? Based on lies? What is memory? Identity? David Shields has strong opinions on all of these questions, and even though I don’t agree with every point, he’s very convincing. Written almost entirely from quotations, David Shields argues for a new type of book, one that transcends the terms fiction and non-fiction. He argues for writing which captures the reality in which we live today. It’s refreshing, compelling, and a heck of a good time. Read this immediately, especially if you are tired of novels.
